Laguna Niguel Newborn Session || Baby Sophia
There is definitely an ideal window of time for newborn sessions. Parents usually ask when they should schedule their session, and I always say “I like to aim for between 7-17 days, but there is some flexibility there”. With a brand new baby, you just never know! Your baby may need extra time at the hospital, mama may need to stay for a bit, baby might be extra jaundice and need to go back every day for light therapy treatments. The window isn’t set in stone, but it’s there for a reason. Your baby has spent 9 months curled up tight, with no room to move, so when I curl him back up, he’s totally fine with it. Brand new babies pretty much sleep for 17 hours a day, and wake for short time periods, which means the chances of us getting nice sleepy baby shots are quite high. As they get older, all of this just gets a little bit harder. But not impossible!
By the time Sophia’s parents reached out to me fo her session and we got it set up, she was already 7 weeks old! Her mom had been turned away by two other newborn photographers in the South Orange County area, because she was outside of that “ideal window”. Being a new parent is hard enough, but to think you’ve missed out on capturing those first moments is heartbreaking. I feel sorry for those others who weren’t willing to risk it, because let me tell you, Sophia was LITERALLY PERFECT!!
Sophia slept like a little dream and when she was awake, she had those beautiful, big, alert eyes that newborns never have. I don’t think she cried even once the entire time I was at her house! We were able to move through all of the sets that I brought with me to her family’s home in Laguna Niguel, and we were done in less time than normal!
I love getting to capture some of the details that make every little babe unique and special. That’s one of the highlights of being a newborn photographer! Little Sophia had the longest dark eyelashes, thick hair that was already starting look curly, and extremely rare condition that affected the development of her fingers on both of her hands. She had the most adorably chubby cheeks!
