My own family visit to the Poppy Reserve - venturing out of Orange County!
After spending our first 6 weeks in pretty strict quarantine, and barely leaving the house, we were all ready for just a little change of scenery!! Even is a lot of that scenery came from a long car ride! We decided to take a little family outing and go to the California Poppy Reserve, out in the Antelope Valley! It was quite the drive from South Orange County!
Even though our main priority was to hike around the reserve trails, I convinced the whole family to bring a quick outfit change, and brought out my camera and tripod to get some family photos. They definitely aren’t the best photos of us, since we’d been in the car for almost 3 hours, it was in the middle of a sunny day, and I was using the self timer on my camera. (Silly me forgot to bring my remote, so I was basically running back and forth between every family shot, trying to get a good one! It was not a pretty sight!).
Thankfully, we got a few decent family photos, that will at least be a nice reminder of the day. And of course Emily and Shannon are always so photogenic and let me take a few photos of them as well. Emily is always my very favorite little model. She won’t last long, but I can usually bribe her for a few good smiles with a snack.
Both my dress and Emily’s dress were great Amazon finds, and I thought the colors were perfect to compliment the poppy field! All in all, we had a fun day! We took our photos, and then hiked through some of the trails for a little while. And while you can’t tell from the photos, it was actually pretty crowded. We maintained social distance as much as possible AND tried to stay on the trails to avoid stepping the delicate poppies. All of that kinda contributed to a shorter stay than we may have done otherwise.
